Questions you may have about hypnotherapy.

What is hypnotherapy?

If you have never experienced Hypnotherapy before, you may be wondering what it’s all about. Clinical Hypnotherapy is not the same as Stage Hypnotherapy, this is important to remember. When you experience Clinical Hypnotherapy, you remain in control.
Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that uses hypnosis to help individuals make positive changes in their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Hypnosis is a state of focused concentration and deep relaxation, where a person is more open to suggestion and can access their subconscious mind. During a hypnotherapy session, a trained therapist guides the client into this relaxed state and uses various techniques, such as guided imagery or verbal suggestions, to address specific issues like stress, anxiety, pain management, phobias, smoking cessation, and more.
The goal of hypnotherapy is to help the individual overcome obstacles or negative patterns by reprogramming the subconscious mind. It’s important to note that while the person is in a hypnotic state, they are not unconscious or asleep; they remain aware of their surroundings and in control of their actions. Hypnotherapy is a widely recognized and evidence-based therapy that can be used alongside other treatments or as a standalone approach, depending on the individual’s needs and its effectiveness can vary from person to person and depending in the issues being addressed.

What should I expect in a hypnotherapy session?

In a hypnotherapy session, you can expect to be guided into a relaxed, focused state, often referred to as a trance. This state is similar to daydreaming or being deeply absorbed in a book or movie, where you’re still fully aware of your surroundings but your mind is more open and receptive to suggestions.
The session will begins with a conversation where we will discuss your goals, such as overcoming a specific issue like anxiety, stress, or a bad habit. We will explore questions to better understand your experiences and the underlying causes of the issue you’re addressing.
Once you’re comfortable, I will lead you through a relaxation process, helping you to release tension and deepen your focus. This could involve breathing techniques, guided imagery, or progressive muscle relaxation. As you become more relaxed, your mind enters a heightened state of focus where positive suggestions or therapeutic techniques are introduced to help address the issue at hand.
During hypnosis, you remain conscious and in control. It’s not like sleep or a loss of control, as commonly portrayed in movies or in stage hypnosis. Rather, it’s a state of heightened awareness where you’re more open to making changes in your thoughts and behaviors.
After the session, you’ll gradually return to your normal state of alertness. I may provide you with additional suggestions or exercises to help reinforce the changes you’ve worked on during the session. Depending on your goals, multiple sessions may be recommended to achieve lasting results.
Overall, you can expect a calm, supportive experience designed to help you access deeper parts of your mind and facilitate positive change.

Where will the session take place?

Hypnotherapy sessions can take place either in-person in the calm, relaxing environment of my therapy room, or alternatively, I can offer sessions via Zoom. This is a useful and option if you don’t want to travel and all you need is to be seated comfortably in a quiet room where you won’t be disturbed. We find that the results are just as successful as a face-to-face session. You can make this choice when you book your session.
